Facts and History about Dortmund Airport

Dortmund Airport - All Information on Dortmund Airport (DTM)

Dortmund Airport (IATA: DTM) is located about 10 kilometers east of Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia. It serves the eastern Rhine-Ruhr area, the largest urban agglomeration in Germany.

Its nearest international airport is Düsseldorf Airport, approximately 70 kilometers to the southwest.

Initially located in the suburb of Brackel, DTM was first served by commercial flights in 1925 with flights to Paris, France. Only two to three years later, it had already expanded its commercial flights annually.

During World War II, Dortmund Airport was used by the German Army and then by the British Royal Air Force until the 1990s.

Commercial air service at Dortmund restarted in 1955. In 1960, it was relocated to Dortmund-Wickede.

The official currency of Germany is the Euro. The currency sign for the Euro is € while the code is EUR.

The US dollars (US$) are not generally accepted, but you can keep a small supply of dollars with you when you go to Germany.

Dollars are good to have on hand in case of an emergency or if you cannot get any local currency.

Dortmund Airport has a modern three-story terminal. The Arrivals Hall is on the ground floor, and the Departures Hall is located on Level 1.

You will also find the check-in desks on the first floor. A visitors’ terrace is available to the public on the second floor.

Amenities at the facility include ample dining choices, shopping, and facilities like restrooms, ATMs, and many more. Note that currency exchange is not available at the airport.

This gateway sits about 130 meters above sea level at 51°31′06″N and 007°36′44″E in Dortmund, Germany.
